Unifit Fastener manufactures SS 316 and 316L nuts to ASTM A194 Grade 8M, ASME SA194, DIN and BS, in sizes from M3 to M100. We cold-forge below M24 and hot-forge above it, then tap, passivate and proof-load test each lot before it ships. The 2-3% molybdenum in 316 is what separates these nuts from 304: it lifts the pitting resistance number (PREN) from roughly 18 to roughly 24, which is why 316 and 316L are specified for seawater, de-icing salt and chlorinated process media. Choose 316L where the nut sits in or beside a weld - its <= 0.030% carbon resists sensitisation. Every lot ships with an EN 10204 3.1 Mill Test Certificate traceable to the heat number; 3.2 third-party inspection through SGS, TUV or Bureau Veritas is available on request. Trial batches start at 5 pieces; container loads dispatch from Nhava Sheva.

What are Stainless Steel 316 and 316L Nuts?
Stainless Steel 316 and 316L nuts are austenitic fasteners alloyed with 2-3% molybdenum, which dramatically improves resistance to chloride pitting and crevice corrosion compared to 304-grade stainless. Grade 316L is the low-carbon variant (0.03% max carbon versus 0.08% in 316), making it the preferred option for welded assemblies since it resists carbide precipitation and intergranular corrosion during and after welding. Unifit Fastener manufactures both grades across hex, square, dome, flange, coupling, lock, and eye-nut configurations, forged or cold-formed to ASTM, DIN, ISO, and JIS dimensional standards.

What is the difference between SS 316 and SS 316L nuts?
SS 316L has a maximum carbon content of 0.035% compared to 0.08% in standard SS 316. The lower carbon reduces the risk of carbide precipitation during welding, making 316L the preferred choice for welded assemblies exposed to corrosive environments.
Are SS 316/316L nuts suitable for marine applications?
Yes. The added molybdenum content gives SS 316/316L superior resistance to chloride pitting and crevice corrosion, making these grades a standard choice for marine, offshore, and coastal construction projects.
Do you provide mill test certificates with every order?
Yes, every shipment includes an EN 10204 3.1 Mill Test Certificate as standard, with 3.2 third-party certification available on request.
What surface coatings are available for SS 316/316L nuts?
We offer PTFE, Xylan, zinc, phosphate, cadmium, and hot-dip galvanized coatings, along with passivation and electro-polishing finishes.
Can SS 316/316L nuts be used at high temperatures?
Yes, these grades retain useful mechanical properties at elevated temperatures and are commonly used in heat exchangers and thermal process equipment, though specific limits depend on load and exposure duration.
