Monel alloys are known to be very durable, especially in harsh marine environments. Monel round bars have a high level of copper, which increases their resistance to corrosion where there is a solution of brine or sodium chloride. Since most metals normally contain an average of 3.5 percent of salt content by weight in oceans and seas, the problem of corrosion is of great concern to the standard metals. Salt contains chlorine, which is an aggressive corrosion element that can destroy passive corrosion layers and hasten rust development.
But the nickel-copper mixture of Monel produces one of the most robust alloys, which has an incredible performance when subjected to marine conditions. Unifit Fastener Monel square and hex bars are designed in such a manner that they are able to resist these corrosive problems. These alloys have low levels of corrosion, even in high-velocity water (e.g., 10 m/s), and are significantly better than the standard stainless steel alloys, such as 304.
The hygroscopic property of salt causes moisture to be retained on the metal surfaces, and this acts even more to enhance corrosion. However, Monel flat bars are immune to the harmful effects of salty sprays, and because of this, they can be used in offshore and coastal applications in the long term. Also, Monel 400 round bar and monel k500 round bar are superior in the prevention of biofouling and in MIC (microbially induced corrosion), which is why they are safe in pipelines, pumps, valves, and other essential parts of the marine devices.
